Yeah but how strong?

Everyone recognizes that we need to be strong in this job, the question is how strong. The NFPA and most fitness guidelines found in department policy are a bit ambiguous in their definition, which is usually something like this “strong enough to perform the job and prevent injury”.

One of the key components of any physical training program is a specific realistic goal, which the above quote does not provide.

I like a basic, safe, easy to coach program that has lots of skill transfer for more complex training down the road.

Here are the numbers I want everyone to hit before they start getting crazy with programming and training:

2x bodyweight Dead Lift
1.5x bodyweight Back Squat (femur below parallel)
1x bodyweight Standing Press

There a few great ways to get there which I will be detailing over the course of the month.

    Adam, when you can, shoot the station an email on how to safely accomplish these goals. I want to get this going at 77.
